Media Mini Feb 8 2026

Welcome friends to the first media mini post wahoo!

im setting a weekly goal for myself to
- watch at least one new (to me) movie
- listen to at least one new (to me) album
- read at least one new (to me) book (that i own already)

and post a blog post bout it on sundays moving forward. i think it’s a pretty reasonable goal and im excited! i’ll also share extra media ive consumed if there is any. but im a creature of habit as they say so sometimes there wont be. ok enough yappin lets get to the good stuff.

Movie(s):

Timer (2009):

i’m gonna pretty much spoil this whole movie so be warned. if u like romcoms i though it was a cute watch and u should watch for yourself.

anyway. basically the premise is there’s this company called timer that installs a timer on ur wrist that counts down to the day that u meet ur soulmate. the world in this movie is the same as irl-- like its not some cyberpunk scifi world or anything its just like suburban america in 2008ish, and also most people have a timer. the main character has a timer but it hasnt started counting down bc her soulmate does not have a timer so shes in this weird limbo where shes tryna meet timer-less guys in order to make them get a timer in hopes that one of them will end up being her soulmate. her sister is also in a weird limbo bc her timer is counting down but says she wont meet her soulmate for another 14 years or something. main character girl is obsessed with finding her one true love, while her sister is more casual about her relationships. main character takes a page from her sister’s book when she starts whats supposed to be a casual relationship with a local supermarket clerk. hes at least a few years younger than her, hes in a rockband, he has a bunch of roommates, and he has like 4 months till he meets his soulmate. the two start to fall for each other of course, and then he reveals that his timer is fake and he actually doesnt believe in timers and doesnt have one. he doesnt buy into this idea that the only relationship you should have, the only relationship that could be important is the relationship with your soulmate. meanwhile sister has been getting flirty with joseph quinn from dexter, who, in this movie, is a hopeless romantic widower with no timer. things are weird for a min btwn main character and main love interest but then, after talking it over with her sister, main and sister decide, fuck these timers, lets get them removed. sister gets her timer off first and then just as theyre bouta take off main’s timer... it activates. and not only that, it says she’ll meet her soulmate tomorrow. sister is pissed, she thought they were in this together, etc. tomorrow is main and sister’s joint bday party. main love interest is there, joseph quinn is there, sister is there, and once main shows up.. disaster. she and quinn lock eyes and their timers go off. theyre soulmates. sister storms out. as does main love interest. main goes to comfort her sister and quinn joins them. turns out sister made him believe in love again, and so he felt compelled to finally get a timer. oh the irony. main and sister have a heart-to-heart and make up. main gets her timer removed and goes to main love interests house. they say their goodbyes and then main runs into soulmate joseph quinn the next day. the end.

i remember when i was in high school i wrote an essay for english class and by the time i was writing the conclusion i had kinda changed my mind about the thesis and so idk i added a counter arguement in the last paragraph or something.. in grading my paper mr. sokoloff wrote something along the lines of this essay was the equivalent of watching a beautiful ballet recital and in the finale the prima ballerina takes a bowl of spaghetti and dumps it on herself.

thats how this movie felt to me.

The F Word AKA What If (2013):

ive watched a very fair chunk of fnaf lore videos and lets plays over the years, though admittedly i was pretty late to the party. kinda wish i was payin attention to fnaf when the og games were comin out but that’ll just have to be added to my to do list for whenever i get a time machine. i did enjoy the first fnaf movie. it was bad but fun. fnaf 2 however... kinda sucked ngl. like what even happened. incredibly forgettable. just pretty lame. coryxkenshin got another cameo so it was nice to see him for a sec.. but it was basically just repeatin the same joke from the first movie. anyway this was a bummer tbh. theres so much potential for it to actually be fun and even good but it just felt like no effort went into the writing. they also set it up for a 3rd movie... and yep i just looked it up and that is happening.. alright... matthew lillard is great.

Youth in Revolt (2009):

another one that has been on my list since high school type shit. very iconic, and again i was pleasantly surprised at its ability to hold my attention. parker posey’s slay after slay definitely helped. idk it was a sweet lil movie. i love 90s nyc. i love the new york public library.

Starlet (2012):

Album(s):

Bat for Lashes - Fur and Gold

yeah so i love music. i’ve fallen out of my old habits of constantly listening to new shit and tryna find the most underground bands and whatever and instead ive just had the bad habit of listening to the same crap over and over. dont get me wrong, i love that crap a lot but like there is sooo much music out there u know. but it rly is time consuming to go and look for new stuff and i just have other priorities these days i guess.

that said, ive been meanin to check these guys out for a while now + finally actually got around to it. yeah i need to not do that like i need to listen to stuff sooner bc this is so good. if ur into febuary, train breaks down, emo etc. i definitely recommend. writing bout music isnt my strong suit lol. im like idk what to say it just sounds dope. anyway i linked their bandcamp above. check em out! rn!

Cime - The Cime interdisciplinary Music Ensemble

Book(s)
Walking Dead

ok so reading has not exaclty been a priority either. like every time i have the chance to read i was just rather play games instead. but like i do love reading. and i have so many awesome books in my collection that ive been neglecting so its time to finally freaking read ok.

first is the walking dead compendium one. shes thick. its prob gonna take me a few weeks. but im excited and so far so good. im obvi a big fan of the show and everyone says the comics even better. im just at the beginning rn so i’ll have more thoughts next week.

Video games:

Despelote (2025):

i recently got a retroid pocket g2. its awesome. i havent gotten the chance to spend too much time on it so right now i just have gamehub lite which is what connects u to steam so u can play ur steam games. it syncs w ur cloud saves n everything too. pretty epic to have a pocketable steam deck thingy. it can do a whole bunch of emulation too but im not there yet. i downloaded celeste mostly to test out my new toy but ive been sucked back into it, tryna collect the strawberries i missed before.. there are a lot. i wasnt super worried bout collecting the strawberries in my first playthru. i wrote about it here if ur interested. its the perfect game to play on the train honestly. lol i say that like im not cursing under my breath every 2 seconds playin this. but yeah shout out once again to celeste.

Consume Me (2025):

i picked up this game in the steam winter sale after seein screenshots of it on pinterest. the pixel art is very beautiful to me!! its a lil narrative-focused puzzle platformer game. nothin too crazy but its sweet. the vibes are dark and mysterious, even a lil spooky sometimes. the themes get into grief and loss as u navigate the world, switching btwn 3 different characters. this might sound harsh but its not what i would call a fun game. i still enjoyed it for the story and the look + feel of the game, which is where it rly thrives-- but the actual gameplay is super slow, +not very involved. the platforming and combat are super minimal. there’s a lot of cutscenes too. its been a good game to play on my retroid i think-- it was worth the $5 i paid for it but i dont think i can recommend it at full price($15) so if ur interested i’d wait for the discount

Telltale’s The Walking Dead (2012-2019):

i love brotato. to copy +paste from the steam description: “Brotato is a top-down arena shooter roguelite” and basically ur a potato w 6 guns and u shoot aliens. the art style is giving miniclip/addicting games and it rocks. as the levels progress, the waves of aliens get crazier and u have to get better guns and items to create a more epic build to defeat em. ive been playin local co-op w my boyfriend and its honestly so fun. i feel like theres not enough fun local co-op games... anyway its rly great game to just throw on for a run (or two or three). u can definitely get more nerdy bout ur build but its also not rly that serious if u dont want it to be.

and that’s it for this week thanks for readin<3
