Didi (2024):
i liked this one! i thought it was sweet. it’s set in 2008 and follows a 13-year-old. as someone who was 12 in 2008 it hit the nostalgia factor pretty hard for me ngl. they handled the time period really well i think, or at least i never felt like my immersion was broken. i was really disappointed in some of saltburn’s costuming for that reason. like fuckkkk it was so 2024’s take on 2006 instead of just being 2006. anyway. didi pulled off 2008 well i think. and also just rly captured the feeling of being that age. i feel like as we get older and especially as grown-person things start hitting us we kinda romanticize being a kid. and yes being a kid is awesome, but this was a good reminder of how hard it could be as well. i’m also an older sister to a lil bro and so that dynamic was relatable too. i wasn’t as mean to my bro [at least i hope i wasn’t omg max call me out if i was] but obv we got into lil spats and i remember feeling guilty and ultimately just wantin to be there for my bro. so it was nice to see their relationship get on better terms before vivian left for college.
MaXXXine (2024): gonna be rly honest and this might be a hot take but im not a big fan of the X/pearl/maXXXine trilogy. idk what it is exactly, these movies just don’t really be hittin for me. i can appreciate the campiness and it’s aesthetically very good, but idk i just love a compelling story at the end of the day and this trilogy is simply not giving that. idk am i missing something??

Jawbreaker (1999):dude idek. i remember almost watching this many many moons ago i think probably when i was in high school but then i didnt, so this was my first time actually watching it. it was fun i guess. Heathers is way better.

The Boy and the Heron (2024):finally freaking saw this. it’s gorgeous but i expected nothing less. just watch it.

Honorable mention:
Scavengers Reign: honorable mention because i didn’t watch it this month, but i have watched it 3 times and i will be watching it some more. this show is soooooooo awesome. honestly if there’s one thing you watch on this list, it should be this show. the world building, the creature design, the environments, the story telling, the animation... holy crap. i follow a few of the people who worked on it and it’s been so sad to hear that as of right now, we’re not getting a season 2, even though from what i understand they have much of it written and ready. it just flew under the radar too much. i hate all you adults who won’t watch animation. i curse u! (not actually but like please, get over yourselves.) animation is so fucking special. and scavengers reign is so special too.
