10.28.2025gaming faves this year
hey so im back bitches...
anyway it’s been a minute.. like a whole year actually. i feel as tho i gotta catch u up on what i been into all this time... This year has been a huge gaming year for me. i love videogames soo much. i wish so badly i had more time to play. the boomers are so right. i dont wanna work. i wanna play video games all day and draw sometimes.
anyway just to be clear this is a list of my favorite games that i played in this past year. like from the end of last summer to this september. aka up until hollow knight: silksong came out bc thats pretty much all ive played since it came out.
Animal Well (2024):ok so picking up where we left off in my last post. i said i was just starting animal well. WELL. lets just say any moment of free time i had in october went to playing this game. it is one of my favorite games ive ever played. im not even gonna link a video or anything cuz i think its best to not know much going into the game. so yeah im not tryna say too much ok but if you’re a fan of mystery + wonder (+puzzles) i think youll enjoy. one of my favorite things about animal well is how even tho its relatively simple in it’s design and mechanics etc. its super creative in how it uses those things and in how it encourages you to mess around and figure out new ways of using tools. there were a few times i felt like i got to an area i wasnt rly supposed to get to yet and yeah idk thats part of the fun i dont wanna say too much ok! spending time in this world was sooo awesome to me. i love exploring and i love when a game makes me use some brain power. i love fun maps and funky sound design. i love animal well.
Hollow Knight (2017):ok i got into hollow knight finally! i tried to play it at some point last year... played for prob 25 minutes and then didnt pick it back up again until April/May this year i guess. anyway. yeah... its another one of my favorite games ever. i never woulda thought. i thought i didnt like combat games. or at least, when theres combat in games ive played (and specifically boss battles) i just dont care about em. like i never rly enjoyed that part of any game. hollow knight changed that for me. i get it now. u know? its sick. and yeah like i said before i like when games make me think a lil more. even tho hollow knight doesnt rly have puzzles it still gets my brain gears spinning. ive spent hours now listening to hollow knight lore videos. its rly just turned into a comfort game for me. i love the world so much. i initially thought i’d stop playin after beating the hollow knight, like my goal was to just finish the base game. well. i did that and more. i had the game at 80% complete. i thought id be ok with that bc im not someone who feels the need to 100% everything but i missed the world. so i got 100%. and there’s still more and i’ll prob do it at some point but now im mostly just soo hype for silksong omg. they finally announced the release date is september 4th!!!
*edit* ok so im posting this a couple months later and yeah silk song is out and i’ve played like 70 hours and omg its just as awesome as i hoped. shout out team cherry fr. and extra shout out for releasing such a quality game for only $20 like wow so based. ima prob do a dedicated silksong/hollow knight post at some point but ye<3
I Am Your Beast (2024):this game rocks. it reminds me of one of my other favorite games, neon white, which ive discussed here before. rly fast paced, fun mechanics. kinda parkour speedy style. each level is like kill all the bad guys as fast as you can and get creative with it to get the fastest time. the art style is so sick too. it’s dope + it’s cheap + and indie + you should try it. its by Strange Scaffhold. they also made clickholding, space warlord organ trading simulator, and an airport for aliens currently run by dogs, to name a few-- i havent played those yet but im really lookin forward to it. i just think theyre super cool. i like games like this for when i dont have a ton of time to play. i can knock out a level or two at a time you know? i dont have to worry bout needing to quit the game but im not near a save point or something. very low pressure but super fun.
Undertale (2015):
uh yeah i finally freaking played this game. its beautiful and heartfelt and everything else youve heard. my boyfriend got me a ps vita 2000 for my bday this year (back in march) and can i just say its amazing. it sucks more games werent made for it. like its type peak gaming if you ask me. im totally sidetracking now but i recently watched this video about pocketable consoles vs. portable consoles and uh yeah very much agreeing. ANYWAY. yeah undertale is awesome. theres prob like one million videos u could watch thatll say it better than me but again, like w animal well and prob even moreso, undertale’s simplicity really shows the beauty of what gaming can be and that you really dont need hyper-realism and fancy mechanics and animations to make a quality, meaningful + fun game.
Fez (2013):
another game i got on my vita. thee indie darling, FEZ. ik there’s some bad aura around this game bc of the dev, phil fish. i actually more recently watched indie games the movie. and fyi i missed the whole gamergate fiasco... when it happened i was not in that world at all... and honestly i still dont know many of the details with any of it. but uh yeah he doesn’t come off so great in the movie at least, i’ll say that. especially compared to the super meat boy boys-- like fr. i was tryna give mr. fish the benefit of the doubt the whole time like, i understand where he’s coming from to an extent, as someone who also makes things but still. yeah not good and pretty hard to watch sometimes tbh. that aside tho... fez is really freaking cool. obviously the 2D/3D thing is like soo sick. the art style is rly just my cup of tea as well. and exploring the world and figuring out the puzzles is super fun and satisfying. i did have to cheat a lil bc apparently some of the puzzles depended on vibrations, which is something the vita cannot do so i had to get a lil online help. but still. i love when games crack open my mind and show me something i havent seen before.
Tearaway (2013):soo prior to getting my vita i had never even heard of Tearaway and idk thats kinda crazy to me. im a huge LBP head (Little Big Planet-head, doy) and yeah i just think if ur into lbp u will also love this game. i guess it only ever came out on vita so that’s prob a big contributing factor but still. its also the same dev as LBP, Media Molecule. Mm. ok wait it looks like an extended remake of tearaway was made for PS4... anyway. its super sick. really makes use of the vita’s specific capabilities. like the back of the console is actually a touch pad. its cool but also its a lil annoying to use (sometimes!) if im being totally honest. but like i really appreciate the creativity a lot. little big planet’s vita game also incorporates this kinda thing. tearaway’s world is made of paper and it all looks so stinkin cool. there’s also this cool mechanic where, for instance, a character will be like “i lost my mustache, can u make me a new one pls?!” and then u go into this like crafting mode where u pick a paper color and then draw the shape u wanna cut out, in this case, a mustache, and then it becomes like a sticker you can use. one thing bout media molecule.. they love stickers ok.
SoundShapes (2012):this is another game i never heard of before i got my vita. its a dope lil music themed side scroll 2d platformer. its like the obstacles/enemies/collectables u run into make different sounds and then as you move thru the level u make a song. its sweet. ive never played anything with a concept like this. its also available on ps3 and ps4 too if youre interested. and u can even make your own levels/songs.
Papers, Please (2013):this is a classic. pretty addicting lil game honestly. i first played on my pc last year but got more into it on my vita this year. if u dont know, basically ur character is a boarder patrol person. u decide who is allowed into ur country and who isnt based on their paperwork and certain guidelines that are assigned. you can use your discretion, perhaps you take some bribes-- ur family at home is cold and sick, afterall. not to mention ur government seems to be corrupt... but it can be risky. anyway there’s maddd different endings and i think ive only gotten like 4 or 5. but yeah thought provoking game to say the least and pretty addicting. also the score/sound design for this game.. iconic.
that’s all for now! ok byeeee<3
